High Level Intelligence Source: Iranian/Hezbollah Invasion Of Israel "Imminent"

by JASmius

Or at least it was before the IDF pre-empted it with cathartically extreme prejudice:

Senior Iranian and Hezbollah figures killed in an airstrike in Syria this weekend were likely planning an ‘imminent’ attack on Israel, security sources have claimed.

Six Iranian army chiefs died alongside five Hezbollah militants after an Israeli helicopter fired rockets at a convoy in the Golan Heights region on Sunday.

Among those killed was Iranian General Mohammed Allahdadi, as well as commander Abu Ali Tabatabai, who is known to have worked with both Hezbollah and Iran.

Today Major General Eyal Ben Reuven, a former deputy head in the Israeli Defense Forces, accused the senior military figures of meeting to plot an attack on Israel.

He added that the commanders’ decision to meet in Syria could mean that a ‘high-level’ and ‘sophisticated’ attack on Israel’s northern border is ‘imminent’.

Research group The Israel Project came to a similar conclusion, saying that the presence of Tabatabai ‘probably indicates operations aimed at overrunning Israeli border towns.’

The warnings come just a week after Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, warned that the group ‘is ready and prepared for a confrontation in the Galilee and beyond the Galilee.’

Iran has also promised a ‘crushing response’ to the weekend strike, without laying out exactly what action will be taken.

Most likely translation: The IDF got the drop on them, they got caught explosively with their metaphorical pants down, and they're blustering to cover the resulting humiliation.  Besides, I don't think the mullahs would need any particular excuse to nuke the Israelis; when they do it, they will just do it.  And if they did want a contrived justification, they wouldn't use one that made them look weak.

Sitting half a world away from this and just speaking as a common sense observer of the Middle East for almost forty years - which makes me a foreign policy Svengali compared to anybody in the Obama Regime - this sounds less like a conventional, straightforward invasion and more like a terrorist attack en masse designed to take mass Jewish hostages and (1) undermine Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu politically for allowing it to happen on his watch, especially with his hardcore hawkish reputation, and (2) try to provoke him into a military counter-response that they could then use as justifiable pretext for escalating the confrontation - perhaps to the nuclear exchange level, since that would be an excuse they could use to paint Netanyahu as the "aggressor".  Yes, I know, Iran and Hezbollah would have started the confrontation by seizing northern Israeli border towns, but this is Israel we're talking about, the white-hatted, good-guy pariah who's always deemed to be at fault for everything in Middle East, which is much of why their Muslim enemies have such a free hand to pursue such murderous plots and schemes.  The Israelis simply have a knack for shooting first, and always making the shot count.

Or, in other words, just another day in the Holy Land.

And far from the last.

Exit question: Over/under on how long it will take the Obama White House to issue its condemnation of Israeli "aggression"?  I predict no later than the end of the week.
