Washington, D.C. Declares War On Christianity

by JASmius

This is the biggest "f-you" to evangelical Christians yet from the American Left.

The gist: In essence, the religious liberties clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution no longer applies within the boundaries of the District of Columbia.  D.C.'s "Human Rights Act," by order of the D.C. City Council, now supercedes it.  Any and all "religious" schools (and, presumably, churches as well) who do not adopt an anti-Christian, pro-homosexual, pro-abortion policy "orientation" will be fined or forcibly shut down altogether.

And if you think for one single, solitary moment that this will be limited to just D.C., you simply have not been paying attention for the last six years:

The impact of the repeal is likely to be broad, since the city’s Human Rights Act will prohibit religious schools from acting in accordance with their beliefs regarding sexual morality in decisions related to funding, facilities, campus organizations, benefits, etc. The schools cannot even withhold “endorsement, approval or recognition” of those promoting messages at odds with the religious teachings of the school about appropriate sexual conduct.

While other states have been acting to protect religious liberties, D.C. is trying to narrow the permissible decisions and even speech of religious schools. It is a warning that carefully constructed compromises on anti-discrimination bills are only temporary.

As is every "compromise" made with the Left.  They never settle for half-measures; they ALWAYS push for absolute victory, at any cost, by any means available.

The objective here isn't primarily to force churches and Christian/Catholic schools (I will guarantee there's an exemption in there somewhere for Muslim-run schools) to turn apostate, although those that did would be gravy to the D.C. City Council.  The goal is to de-Christianize, or "religiously cleanse" (other than Muslims, of course) the District of Columbia.  Remember what I always say: life is about incentives.  And D.C. has created a heavy incentive for biblical churches and like-mindedly faithful Christian schools to relocate to more tolerant environs (until they chase them out as well).  It's very reminiscent of how the early Church was scattered throughout Judea and Samaria after the martyrdom of the Apostle James (half-brother of Jesus) - the difference being that God's purpose for the latter was to facilitate the spreading of the Gospel and the growth and spread of the Church Universal.  This is now a persecutory pursuit intended to corner and then wipe out the Christian Church in America altogether.

The Constitutional angle in this is interesting, because whereas the Bill of Rights was never intended by the Framers to be applied to the States (the "incorporation of the Bill of Rights"), the District of Columbia is not (yet) a State, and as such is subject to direct administration by Congress.  Consequently, this flagrant evisceration of First Amendment religious liberties can, and must, be reversed post-haste by the incoming GOP-controlled 114th Congress before the contagion can spread and gain a foothold in actual States (or at least any faster than it already will).

Make an example of D.C., folks.  And do not be merciful.  If they want to get pissy about it, take away home rule.  These are not the times in which to play anything but hardball.

Or, in other words, sauce for the gander.
