Tom Brokaw: "If You Defeat Us We Will Still Be In Charge"

by JASmius

Well, here's one elder leftwing propagandist who seems to believe that today will not go well for the ruling party:

Monday afternoon on MSNBC, NBC News’ Tom Brokaw was asked what Americans are thinking heading into Tuesday’s midterm election.

Sounds like a pre-post-mortem already, doesn't it?

“Well, they’re thinking that they’d like to have Washington get something done,” Brokaw said.

"Something"?  Can you be a wee bit more specific, Tom?

“The question is, not just which party can get it done, but how can they change the tone of Washington so they can work together.”

You'd need to talk to your demigod about that, Tom.

“I was listening to Governor Haley Barbour a moment ago, no one is shrewder in the Republican party than Haley, and last week Senator Portman from Ohio was talking about the agenda for the Republicans if they gain control of the Senate; the question then is, what are they prepared to give to the Democrats to meet them in the middle ground?”

Because the first thing every winning party does after an election triumph is start yielding policy ground to the opponents whose asses they've just kicked.

“What are they going to do about immigration, what are they going to do about the minimum wage?” Brokaw continued.

What did your party do about those two issues when they had supermajorities in both Houses of Congress, Tom?  Nothing.  And now that your party will have suffered the consequences of the things they DID do when they had that power, you now believe that Republicans have been elected to unified majority control to be....what?  Crazy Nancy's and Dirty Harry's caddies?

Yes!  You!  Do!

“Things have not been done in the last couple of years, in part because both parties have staked out positions at either end of the spectrum and refuse to meet in the middle. That’s the question I think that the country is really fed up with.”

Or perhaps the country is fed up with your demigod and his party, Tom.  Perhaps House Republicans have been doing things that the country wants, but Harry (G)Reid and Barack Obama have been keeping those things from "getting done".  And now their votes will finally have caught up with their policy preferences.

Maybe you should be asking this question of the Dems, Tom.  Hell, Joe Biden is already beating you to it.

“If you go around America, city councils in Seattle, Los Angeles and Atlanta are getting things done because they work together. It doesn’t happen in Washington.”

It doesn't happen because, unlike in those cities, Republicans are actually allowed inside the Washington, D.C. city limits without being arrested on sight, much less on the aforementioned municipalities' city councils.

Told you Barack Obama was lazy.

Exit question: Will Brokaw be on MSNBCCCP tonight to snap the David Brinkley Memorial Pencil and stomp off the set in a rage, or will Rachel Madcow ritually sacrifice a baby elephant on camera?
