Alan Long is a First Responder, and Should Know Better

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The shock of Murrieta Mayor Alan Long causing an injury accident while legally impaired by alcohol has been shock enough for the City of Murrieta, but being reelected because he failed to drop out of the election after resigning his position has floored a number of people.  With lab results showing a .08 blood alcohol level, making his DUI injury accident a felony, Long may not be on the council for long.

As I told NBC Channel 4 a week ago, prior to the election, "Alan Long is a first responder.  He should know better."

One of the girls from the accident remains in pain, with a neck brace in place as she heals from a broken neck.  "He's supposed to be a role model," one of the girls said.

Role model?  Perhaps.  Uphold the public trust?  Absolutely.

Long's betrayal of the public trust, the protection of Long by the power players in Murrieta, and then proof of how uninformed the voters portrayed by the fact that Long earned the second largest number of votes in Tuesday's election, is unacceptable.

Local political minds state that Long's intention is to resign his post, and then he can be replaced by the good ol' boys own choice, of whom it is being suggested may be one of the losers from the election, WRCOG plant Ruthanne Taylor-Berger.

Diana Serafin, one of the challengers in the election that failed to win a seat on the council, says that if Ruthanne is appointed in Long's place, "there will be a recall."

Jonathan Ingram, the third place winner in Murrieta's city council election on Tuesday, indicated to me that those kinds of games will not transpire if he can help it.

Long's arraignment is scheduled for December 11.
