Obama Vows to be more like George Bush in War on Terror. . . Kinda

By Douglas V. Gibbs

"We are going to destroy you, in a careful, manageable, humanitarian manner," seemed to be the message President Barack Obama has been sending to the Islamic State (ISIS) that has been brutally and mercilessly slashing its way through Syria and Iraq, beheading American journalists, and directly addressing the President of the United States with terrorist threats.

President Obama took a break from his very busy and demanding vacation and golfing schedule to travel to Europe and address a crowd about ISIS, a problem he considers to be a "manageable problem," while also uttering that he plans to "degrade and destroy" them.  He sort of reminded me of the Sheldon Cooper character on the CBS television show, Big Bang Theory, throwing around threats without the full understanding of what he is saying, or how to approach whatever new difficulty he has found himself in.  Is he going to "degrade and destroy" them by rendering them catatonic with a classic Bazinga?

Maybe he'll try to make the heads of the leaders of ISIS explode with his mind.

Under pressure by Congress to pursue a tough approach against the Islamic State, Obama told his audience in Estonia that he was prepared to be tough as a result of ISIS's "horrific" and "barbaric" actions, vowing "justice will be served."

We have to remember that to the liberal left, justice means something totally different.  You've seen the list: We have social justice, economic justice, distributive justice, retributive justice, political justice, moral justice, liberal justice, restorative justice, civil justice, and now justice for terrorists.  Is he going to sue ISIS in civilian court?  That tends to be the liberal left democrat idea of justice when going after terrorists.  You know, because of all that workplace violence and militant activities that occurs because Bush was a warmonger against the Muslims.

Obama had to act tough, or say something that remotely sounded like it may be remotely tough, because apparently last week's strategy of not having a strategy yet didn't go over too well.

"Our objective is clear, and that is to degrade and destroy ISIL so it is no longer a threat not just to Iraq but also the region and to the United States."

Later in the press conference, Obama returned to the topic and noticeably softened his tone.

He clarified that if the U.S. is joined by an international coalition, they can "continue to shrink ISIL's sphere of influence, its effectiveness, its financing, its military capabilities to the point where it is a manageable problem."

He sort of sounds like Urkel trying to imitate Abraham Lincoln during the debates with Douglas, when Abe called for containing slavery, not abolishing it.  Lincoln talked about maintaining slavery's sphere of influence, its effectiveness, its economics, its capabilities to expand, to a point where it was a manageable problem.

It would be not very nice to those poor "freedom fighters," I am thinking that Obama is figuring, to crush ISIS.

Oh, did you notice Obama calls them ISIL?  That actually gives them more credibility as a larger organization.

As ISIS, the Islamic State would cover Iraq and Syria. As ISIL, the terror group is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, describing a territory far greater than simply Iraq and Syria.  As ISIL, it’s defined as consisting of the island of Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and part of southern Turkey.

Either Obama sees the potential of the Islamic State as being greater than everyone else, or he hopes their potential is greater, by using ISIL instead of ISIS.

I tend to just call them the Islamic jihad, which is what they are a part of, just like Hamas, Hezbollah, Libya Awake, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Palestinian Authority.

They are all just different names for the same overall push for an Islamic caliphate.

I am sure Obama is not happy with people like Senator John McCain, the sort-of Republican out of Arizona, who is sickened by Obama's weak tone regarding the Islamic State.  ISIS has "got to be destroyed," says McCain, and Obama does not yet have a strategy to implement that.

Obama says dealing with the Islamic State will take time, because trying to negotiate with them, and collect a few friends to help with the strong Sheldon-Cooper-kind-of-language, takes a while to put together.

Meanwhile, ISIS continues to slaughter, annihilate, and behead everything in their path. . . especially Christians.

ISIS, knowing the level of jelly that inhabits Obama's spine, has warned Obama by video that as long as U.S. airstrikes against the militant group continue, "our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people."

Obama responded that he will continue to fight the militant threat and the "barbaric and ultimately empty vision" it represents.

"Our objective is to make sure that ISIL is not an ongoing threat to the region," he said. "And we can accomplish that. It's going to take some time and it's going to take some effort."

I don't believe it would take that long.  If we had a military mind in the Oval Office that actually spent time in the Oval Office, and a person that understood the capabilities of the American Forces, we could clean it all up in a matter of days.

That's too brutal, to Obama.  He's a community organizer, and that is how he is going to tackle this.
