House Rejects Obama's $3.7 Billion Amnesty Subsidy

by JASmius

Huzzah!  Huzzah!  Huzzah!:

A key Republican said Friday that Barack Obama’s multibillion-dollar emergency request for the border is too big to get through the House, as a growing number of Democrats rejected policy changes Republicans are demanding as their price for approving any money.

The developments indicated that Obama faces an uphill climb as he pushes Congress to approve $3.7 billion to deal with tens of thousands of unaccompanied kids who’ve been arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border from poor and increasingly violent Central American nations. And they suggested that even as the children keep coming, any final resolution is likely weeks away on Capitol Hill.

Officials reportedly told Congress on Thursday that the $3.7 billion would in-part pay for health care, schooling and lawyers for the illegal immigrant children who have been flooding across the border recently. The Obama administration is asking lawmakers to approve the funds quickly.

And why does he want his four bil quickly?  Why, so nobody looks at the details of what's in the bill, of course.  And so Republicans will panic and pass it for fear of being vilified as "cruel" and "mean" and "callous" and "heartless" and, of course, "racist" before they can realize that this would be the political equivalent of passing "comprehensive immigration reform" in the first place.  And also before they can remember that this "border crisis" isn't damaging GOP midterm election prospects, but is vaporizing what tattered, woebegone chances congressional Democrats had left.

Happily, House 'Pubbies are not coming to the rescue of their Donk "friends".  Feast your eyes on an example of the policy changes (i.e. poison pills) the majority demanded as the price of their approval:

Rogers spoke shortly after the Congressional Hispanic Caucus convened a news conference to denounce efforts to attach legal changes to the spending measure that would result in returning the children home more quickly to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Those countries account for most of the more than 57,000 unaccompanied kids who’ve arrived since October. [emphasis added]
That is to say, returning them period, because the longer they're here, the more minuscule the chances of their ever being deported.  And those chances are nonexistent as it is.

In a word, the Democrats are trapped.  Their demigod has herded them into another Kobayashi Maru - a no-win scenario.  Illegal immigration, along with gun control, is of that rarest of issue species: a topic on which the Left's stance is, and has always been, hugely unpopular.  The American people have always overwhelmingly supported enforcing the border and opposed illegal immigration and amnesty.  By 2-1 margins, and according to the latest surveys, that ratio has reached 4-1.  Now Barack Obama has deliberately engineered this "humanitarian crisis" that is demolishing what's left of his own credibility and popularity (about which he doesn't care, because [1] he's done with elections and [2] he's got all the power anyway), as well as that of his party (about which he also doesn't care for that same reason [2], but his party most definitely does).  The only way out for the latter is to bully and bulldoze House Republicans into committing political mauk-to'Vor in their place.  And the majority just called their bluff.

And rest assured, gentles, when the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee (Hal Rogers, R-KY5, just for the record) turns down an "emergency" spending request - appropriators' favorite flavor - on the grounds that it's "too expensive" and "we don't need it," you know the Dems' bluff has been called.

So in this rarer-than-hen's-lips instance, the voice of Da Peepul has been heard.  Yes, give these "unaccompanied minor children" a bath, a few square meals, a change of clothing, all needed and necessary medical treatment - and then ship their heinies back to their home countries with instruction booklets on how to emigrate to America legally.  And since Nick Fury will grow his left eyeball back before Barack Obama ever "executes" that last step, it is his mess in which to wallow and marinate.

And that of his party as well.

Bon appetite, assholes.  Hope you enjoy how he exploits it, and you, next, 'cause you're the ones who'll get stuck with the "bill".
