Dershowitz, Zogby Clash on Latest Gaza Conflict

by JASmius

And Zogby was definitely on the defensive:

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz and Arab American Institute President James Zogby went head-to-head on Friday in a live debate on the escalating violence between Israel and Hamas, with Dershowitz insisting that Hamas is "100% at fault."

Appearing exclusively on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum," the two men vehemently disagreed about which party was to blame for the latest round of violence that erupted in the aftermath of the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers, followed by a retaliation kidnapping and murder of a Palestinian teenager."The fault is 100% with Hamas for starting a fight they cannot win," Dershowitz said. "Violence in the name of protecting civilians is 100% justified."

He added that every democracy would behave in the same way if its civilians were being attacked.

In recent weeks, Israel has launched airstrikes on at least 100 sites in the Gaza Strip in an effort to halt the attacks by Palestinian militants, using some 300 rockets and mortars.

Dershowitz accused Hamas of perpetrating a "double war crime," pointing out that Hamas not only sends rockets into crowded civilian centers, including hospitals and schools, but then uses Palestinians as human shields, hoping Israel will respond and kill them.

Not much to add to that, other than an anecdotal metaphor: If you had a neighbor that kept trying to firebomb your home every single day, wouldn't you find that intolerable after a while and do something about it?  Especially if the only response you could get out of the cops was queries as to when they could bring over their marshmallows and weenies for roasting?

Zogby's retort was simultaneously concessionary and addled:

Zogby acknowledged the rocket fire by Hamas was "inexcusable," but that the response of both sides was "stupid."

"We've done this now five times in the last nine years and every time it ends up the same way. No winners and a lot of losers — in particular, Palestinians who die by the hundreds by the time it's over. It's a disaster and frankly it never should have started," Zogby said.

At the same time, Zogby insisted the real cause for the latest outbreak of violence is due to Israel "oppressing brutally" the Palestinians, and its "horrific blockade" of Gaza.

Hamas is "inexcusable" for provoking repeated conflicts that never should have started because Hamas keeps starting them, but the Israelis are really to blame because they keep "brutally oppressing" Palestinians by getting blown apart by Hamas rocket fire and blockading Gaza to prevent Hamas from getting the rockets that they keep firing into Israeli cities with which to help the Israelis "brutally oppress" the Palestinians.  Yes, that's clear as an elephantine diarrhea attack.

If I were Zogby, I'd have just no-showed the debate.  Better to look like a coward than a coward and an idiot.

Dershowitz, ironically, was the one to put his finger on the actual source of Israeli culpability:

But Dershowitz shot back, saying Zogby's argument of an occupation is entirely false.

"Israel abandoned Gaza and gave up all the settlements in the hope of really achieving peace," he said. "Israel left it. There was no siege; it completely abandoned it."

....to Hamas, which came in, took and occupied Gaza, and began the daily rain of rockets and missiles into Israeli population centers that has continued for almost a decade.  Hamas didn't have a hammerlock on the late Ariel Sharon to force him into such an act of insanity.  He did that his own moronic self.  Just as a failure to do anything less than re-conquer Gaza now, after four previous half-hearted, calculatedly inconclusive incursions, would be no less an exercise in rank dumbassery.

It's what no pol, no official, no poobah wants to publicly utter: There is no "peace" to be had.  Israel's Muslim enemies will never stop attacking her until the Jewish State is annihilated and the genocide Hitler started three quarters of a century ago is complete.  So Israel must wipe out her Muslim enemies first.  A lesson so gapingly obvious that nobody is able, or willing, to recognize it.

Unless rockets and missiles are daily raining down on their heads.

Dershowitz inexplicably swerved into obsequious praise for the Obama Regime's dogged efforts to shiv the Israelis in the hexaribs and deliver them on a platter to Hamas AND Fatah for butchering at their leisure.  Which may help explain these Gallup poll results:

Barack Obama's approval rating is higher among Muslims than any other religious group in the United States, a new poll has found.

According to a Gallup Poll conducted over six months from January to June, 72% of Muslims said they approve of the president, compared with just 20% who disapprove.

To borrow Erik Selvig's last drunken comment to Thor before he passed out, "I still don't think Barack Obama is a closet Muslim.  But he ought to be."

And Alan Dershowitz needs to learn to stop undercutting his own pro-Semitic arguments, and finish connecting the proverbial dots.

UPDATE: Incidentally, one of Hamas's chief targets in their rocket barrages?  The Dimona nuclear installation in the Negev.  Darn those Israelis for stealing nuclear technology from the mullahs!
